Recycling programs
are established by parish and city officials; therefore, SWeeDee
cannot offer recycling to all of its service areas. As of November
1, 2006, the City of Thibodaux and
the City of Port Allen have curbside
recycling service. Pointe Coupee Parish
and Iberville Parish have satellite
recycling centers.
Recycled
items include paper products, aluminum and tin cans and plastic
containers. No glass please. Paper products include newspapers,
magazines, cardboard, computer paper, etc.
(Left) SWeeDee loves to be a part of school activities, and
the students love our big trucks. We use this opportunity to
teach the importance of recycling reusable goods to protect
the environment for generations to come.
Recycling
Tips
We
ask that no glass be included in recycling for two reasons:
because it damages the specialized recycling machinery and because
it serves as a good base for landfills.
Paper products
are valuable recycling materials. We accept all paper products,
including newspapers, computer paper, catalogs, magazines and
cardboard. We are particularly encouraging small businesses
to recycle their paper products.
Whenever
possible we ask that paper products be protected from excessive
moisture, that caps be removed from bottles and that plastic
bottles be flattened by cutting into four pieces. This helps
in the sorting process and makes the process more beneficial
for all.
